On the Issues

  • Community

Being in a community together means understanding the social and economic challenges that individuals face in their daily lives. That is why I created the STAY program to reimburse a part of property taxes to low-income and moderate-income seniors and why I helped to bring in the SMAA (Southern Maine Agency on Aging) representative to aid with the complexities of Medicare and other aging challenges.

As Yarmouth becomes a more diverse community, we are all learning together how to recognize and value our differences and our common interests. That is why I am an active member of YCARE (Yarmouth Community Alliance for Racial Equity).

  • Natural Environment

Preserving, protecting, and restoring our local natural environment combats climate change, creates recreational opportunities, and promotes health. During my tenure on the Council, I have championed the acquisition of new open space, such as the Riverfront Woods Preserve and pro-environmental policy initiatives including the Climate Action Plan and Royal River Restoration study by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. I have served as Council liaison to the Tree Committee and the Committee for Energy Efficiency and Sustainability.

  • Built Environment

Housing development and affordability are hot topics in town. Balancing the demand for housing and the need for affordable housing while preserving open space, Yarmouth’s woods and waters, and the quaint look and feel of the village is a difficult and delicate task. When faced with controversial zoning and development decisions, I make sure to listen to neighbors and stakeholders to understand their concerns and look for win-win solutions.
